POS Software

Point-of-Sale software is available that can be integrated into most PC computers. This is basically a secure website that you can login into through a high speed internet connection (if you use dial-up this may not be the best option for you) and can process ALL types of credit cards.

To secure the ‘card present’ rates you will need a external PIN PAD or card-swiper. In Canada due to the Interac regulations the external hardware must be certified by Interac to be able to do debit. This is not necessary for just credit cards only. In Canada you cannot just go and buy an external PIN PAD or card swiper from anywhere like Ebay for a few bucks. Unfortunately, you will need to get one from your merchant account provider at premium or retail price.

Typically, you can rent one from $25-$49/month and purchase one from $700-$1000. If your purchase just be sure to find out the warranties on the hardware. Make sure you get a lifetime warranty to protect yourself from any mis-haps, like a client dropping the PIN PAD on the floor…an employee spilling a drink on it, etc. I would be horrible if you just invested $700-$1000 and to find out it’s not under any warranty.

You may not want to use a PC type POS Software, you may want to use what most brick-and-mortar businesses use… Debit Machines.
